Biography

Dylan is a Postdoctoral Research Assistant based in the 3DVisLab research group at DJCAD, University of Dundee. His primary role is as part of H-Unique an interdisciplinary research project analysing and interpreting anatomical hand variation and uniqueness via images.

Dylan has extensive experience of undertaking practice-led animation and visualisation research with a focus on using 3D visualisation technologies to improve the communication, understanding, and aesthetics of complex three-dimensional datasets. This includes the application of 3D computer graphics and animation, digital compositing, and visual effects in collaboration with a range of disciplines including mathematics, applied health, psychology, forensic dentistry, archaeology and subsea surveying.

His work employs the use of scripting to create bespoke tools which can improve or automate the processing and visualisation of challenging datasets. He is particularly interested in improving the understanding of data quality and better evaluating the properties of point cloud data his doctoral thesis proposes the Dundee Data Grading Scale as a method of grading multibeam sonar datasets, leading to improvements in data capture and quality awareness in a commercial environment.

Dylan holds a first-class BSc (Hons) in Digital Media from Edinburgh Napier University, an MSc (with distinction) in Animation & Visualisation from the University of Dundee, and a PhD in 3D Visualisation from the University of Dundee.
